    Medicare Advantge Open Enrollment Period

The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period between  every year when Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their Medicare coverage. This includes enrolling in Medicare for the first time, switching from one Medicare plan to another, or disenrolling from Medicare completely.

Two enrollment periods for Medicare Advantage Plans:

    AEP – Annual Enrollment Period

This is the time of year you can change your plan for the following year’s benefits.  The AEP enrollment dates are Oct 15th – Dec 7th of every year.

It’s important to note that changes made during the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) will take effect in January.  Beneficiaries who don’t make any changes during this time will be automatically re-enrolled in their current Medicare plan.

For most people, the Medicare Open Enrollment Period is the only time of year when they can change their Medicare coverage. However, there are a few exceptions. For example, newly eligible for Medicare due to age or disability can enroll anytime.

Additionally, people with a Medigap policy can switch to another policy at any time, regardless of the Medicare Open Enrollment Period. People with a Medicare Advantage Plan can disenroll and return to their Original Medicare at any time during the year.

    OEP – Open Enrollment Period

As a Medicare Advantage Plan holder, you have the opportunity to switch plans if you find the plan you are in does not meet your needs. This period starts January 1 – March 31.

The Medicare Open Enrollment Period runs from Jan 1-March. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can compare plans and choose the coverage that best meets their needs. They can also switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan or vice versa.

What Our Customers Think Of Us

Rob was the agent I spoke with. He was extremely patient with me and went out of his way to ensure I got everything I was entitled to. He took the time to explain things clearly and made sure I understood before moving on. His sincere desire to help me was very refreshing, and his positive attitude helped to lift my spirits. I appreciate the excellent customer service I received from Rob and want to thank him for his help. Thank you!

    Melissa Jones

I didn't have a lot of time to research all of the different insurance plans on the market. I was extremely pleased with the professionalism of my contact agent, Gina, who took the time to make comparisons between my current plan and the one she thought was most advantageous for me. I did take her advice and switched to a new plan that offered more perks and suited me. I would highly recommend Senior Healthcare Advisors and their Agents to anyone who is looking for an insurance agent that they can trust.

What if You Miss The Open Enrollment Period For Medicare?

Medicare Open Enrollment is the time each year when people with Medicare can choose or change their Medicare health and prescription drug coverage for the following year. If you miss the Medicare Open Enrollment Period, you may have to pay a late enrollment penalty for as long as you have Medicare. You may also have to wait until the next Open Enrollment for Medicare to get coverage.

There are other times when you can sign up for Medicare outside the Medicare Open Enrollment Period. These special times are called “Special Enrollment Periods.” You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you move, lose other health insurance coverage, get married, or have certain changes in your Medicaid coverage. If you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period, you can sign up for Medicare during that time.
